Not long after starting her career with us, Dejeune saw a memo about the yearlong Upward Mobility Program, designed for team members to develop and enhance their qualifications to better compete for entry-level positions. She jumped at the opportunity, applied, and was accepted. She’s now in a new role in our Legal Office, with long-term goals of exploring leadership opportunities.

What’s the best advice you ever received from a What’s the best advice you ever received from a mentor? For Sabrina Hutchins, Chief of the Enterprise Strategy and Performance Division (left) it was, “If I wanted to grow, I had to challenge myself.” She shared these words of wisdom with her mentee Ryan (right), who started working for our Employer Account Management Division one week before the pandemic. He took Sabrina’s words of wisdom to heart when he found himself in a situation in which he didn’t get to meet many people face-to-face. He challenged himself by stepping out of his comfort zone and volunteering for a variety of projects, which gave him the valuable opportunity of working with managers across the organization.

In our Emerging Leader Program team members are matched with an executive level mentor and work in groups on projects that could have real-world impact in the enterprise. Team members interested in participating can learn more about the Program on our Intranet.

The firefighters treated me with respect and left a lasting impression on me. After moving to California, I read the local fire department was testing to fill one position. I got the appointment. 44 years later I retired. It proved to be all I had hoped for and then some.”
