If you don’t like cycling class or get bored, it’s great for your core and legs,” plus she enjoys spending the time outside.

“I look forward to becoming a leader, following “I look forward to becoming a leader, following the examples of the strong, smart, capable women who have been my mentors,” Barbi (left) is part of the fifth cohort of the CalPERS Emerging Leader Program. This 6-month program prepares team members with high potential for future leadership roles. Based on an assessment, they are paired with an executive level team member who will guide them on their journey. Barbi was matched with Kim Malm (right), Division Chief of the Strategic Health Operations Division. For Kim, the relationship piece is the most important part, “Mentoring relationships have shaped who I am both as a mentee and mentor”.

May is Bike Month and it’s time to ride! In the May is Bike Month and it’s time to ride! In the 16 years that Kimberly has worked for CalPERS, she has always biked, carpooled, or ridden the bus. She finds that riding her bike is her favorite commute method. “There are so many benefits to riding — more physical activity on a regular basis (my legs are stronger and toned) and I am less stressed. Most of all, I’ve enjoyed meeting team members in the bike locker. The bikes are a great unifier between team members from different backgrounds and divisions.”
