Each year, California state employees are given the opportunity to support nonprofit causes they’re passionate about through @unitedwayccr’s Our Promise campaign — either through payroll giving or one-time donations.

CalPERS did its part to embrace the campaign this past week during our lunch hour, where team members celebrated #OurPromiseCA with festive fall costumes, treats, and charity.

Different nonprofits here in the Sacramento area were invited to table at the event — including @crhkids, @thefccp, @sackids, and others — while CalPERS’ very own participated in fun contests and silent auctions, all for a good cause.

Last year, our team donated $81,000+ to local nonprofits, and we’re again #UnitedInGiving for 2025!

Every public pension dollar paid to CalPERS retirees comes from three sources — investment returns, member contributions, and employer contributions.

As of FY 2023-24, investment returns accounted for 55% of that funding over a 20-year average.
