If you need important CalPERS documents, you can quickly request, receive, and access many items via myCalPERS.

Frequently Requested Letters

Through myCalPERS, you can request and print letters for your own personal records, or submit a request for us to send a letter on your behalf to a third party — saving you time and postage.

Once you’ve logged in to your myCalPERS account, select Statements, then Request a Document, and you can request:

  • Member Account Balance Letter — This letter shows your total contributions and service credit, as reported by your employer. This letter cannot be sent by us to a third party.
  • Verification of Deposit Letter — This letter shows your current retirement account balance. This is typically requested by a third party when applying for a home or personal loan. We can send this letter to a third party for you.
  • Verification of Refund Letter — This letter shows the amount of your refunded retirement contributions. We cannot send this letter to a third party.

Your requests remain available as PDFs for two years from the request date.

Important Statements

  • Annual Member Statement — This statement shows an accounting of your retirement-related work history as reported by your employer. Your statement is available each year in late summer.
  • 1099-R Tax Statement — The 1099-R tax statement reports the amount of retirement income you received during the tax year. The form contains boxes retirees need to use to complete federal and state tax returns. The 1099-R tax forms are mailed by the end of January each year. But, if you opt in before December 31 to get your statement electronically, we’ll send you an email as soon as your statement is available in early January.

Tell Me About More E-Options

You can easily change your mailing preferences via myCalPERS to get more materials electronically through your myCalPERS account. Go to Menu, then My Account, then go to Mailing Preferences. Choosing Online reduces the amount of hard-copy CalPERS documents sent to you, but we’ll still send some important documents via U.S. Mail if needed.

Remember: You can also use myCalPERS to review your account details, learn more about retirement and health benefits, schedule an appointment, update contact information, enroll in upcoming classes and events, send us a secure message, and much more.
