CalPERS publishes the Health Benefits Program Annual Report (PDF) (HBPAR) every November 1, giving you an in-depth review of our program from the prior year.
According to the new HBPAR, in 2023:
- We covered 1,537,544 million members through our health program.
- We spent nearly $11.3 billion to secure health coverage for our members and their families.
- We contracted with nearly 1,200 public agencies and schools to offer health coverage to their active employees, retirees, and their families.
- We experienced an overall premium increase of 6.75% for our Basic and Medicare health plans.
Throughout the HBPAR, you’ll find insights about our different health plan offerings, including benefit design changes, medical trends, and financial information — providing an annual snapshot of our vital work in support of our members’ health and well-being.
