8 Tips to Manage Your Retirement Check

Here are eight easy things to keep in mind about CalPERS retirement check payments and processes:

  1. You can sign up for direct deposit anytime by logging in to myCalPERS and choosing Retirement, then Payment Options. You can also complete and mail the Direct Deposit Authorization (PDF) to us.
  2. You can access your check details through our mobile app (check out the myCalPERS Pay Warrant App Instructions [PDF]) or get check details via our automated phone system.
  3. The State Controller’s Office issues your payments and determines mailing and deposit dates.
  4. Benefits are paid at the beginning of the month for the previous month’s benefits.
  5. For tax reasons, your December check is always dated the first day of the new year.
  6. You can view or print your benefit statements from the last five years by logging in to myCalPERS.
  7. You should only use a personal email address that’s unique to you for CalPERS business.
  8. You can quickly update mailing and email addresses via your myCalPERS account (choose My Account, then Contact Information).
