In spite of the federal government shutdown, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has confirmed that it will process tax returns beginning Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, and provide refunds to taxpayers as scheduled. Since the timing of the federal government shutdown is unpredictable, please check the IRS Newsroom regularly for any updates. The filing deadline to submit 2018 tax returns is Monday, April 15, 2019, for most taxpayers (taxpayers who live in Maine or Massachusetts have until April 17, 2019).

1099-R tax statements will be mailed to CalPERS retirees by the end of January. Statements are mailed to the addresses we have on record, so if you recently moved, be sure to update your mailing address.
If you prefer to view your tax statement online, the 1099-R will also be available in my|CalPERS by Feb. 1. Once you log in to my|CalPERS, you can view and print your statements from the last five years, if available.
Because your tax situation can change from year to year, you may want to adjust the federal or California state withholding amounts deducted from your monthly benefit payment. Tax tables are revised annually by the Internal Revenue Service and the Franchise Tax Board. You can change your tax withholding by mail, fax, or online.
