We recently implemented a new online process to improve service credit purchase requests for Service Prior to Membership, which is service credit you can purchase if you worked for a CalPERS-covered employer before you became a CalPERS member.
Our new process requires you to submit a copy of your Service Prior to Membership request to your employer, who will certify the time worked prior to membership and submit the request online on your behalf. Prior to processing the service credit purchase request, our system will automatically review and validate the membership information to ensure accuracy.
What does this mean for you? We have reduced turnaround times by switching to electronic employer certification, so your service credit request is processed much faster. And we will continue to improve all our service credit purchase processes to better serve our members.
