The dependent reverification process requires all active and retired state and California State University (CSU) employees to verify their dependents meet the eligibility requirements for continued CalPERS health and/or dental benefits every three years.
You will receive the first dependent reverification letter 90 days before your birth month. The letter will provide a list of dependents you are required to verify along with important information and instructions.
All verification documents are due by the first of your birth month. If documentation is not provided by the due date, your dependents will be removed automatically from your health and/or dental benefits.
Dependents who require verification:
- Registered domestic partners
- Natural born children*
- Adopted children*
- Children of registered domestic partners
*Natural born and adopted children will only need to be reverified once during your reverification process as an active employee and once as a retiree.
State and CSU Active Employees
You should submit all required documents to your department’s personnel office, and they will retain all of your required dependent reverification documents in your official personnel file. You may not be required to provide the government issued marriage certificate, domestic partnership registration, and birth certificates for stepchildren or domestic partner children if the marriage or domestic partnership remains current.
State and CSU Retirees
Once you retire, you will have to resubmit all reverification documents to CalPERS during your first reverification cycle as a retiree.
To ensure secure and timely processing of your reverification documents, you may upload your signed and dated Dependent Eligibility Verification Affidavit and all other required documents online by logging in to myCalPERS and going to the Health tab and selecting the Verify Your Dependents Now link. Processing can take up to 30 days and you will receive a notification letter.
All of your required dependent reverification documents submitted as a retiree will be retained by CalPERS. You may not be required to provide the government issued marriage certificate, domestic partnership registration, and birth certificates for stepchildren or domestic partner children if the marriage or domestic partnership remains current.
Refer to this updated chart to determine the month and year you will receive your 90-day letter:
