This month the CalPERS Board will meet Monday, July 13, to Wednesday, July 15, via livestream as all board members and presenters will be participating from their respective remote locations. The livestream can be viewed on the CalPERS website.
The online board meetings are open to the public and comments can be submitted via telephone by calling (800) 259-4105.
A recording will be posted to the CalPERS YouTube channel approximately 48 hours after the meeting ends.
Full agendas are posted on our website, but here is a brief overview of the items the board will hear this month:
On Monday, July 13, the board will hear a chat with Hamilton Lane CEO Mario Giannini on private equity and the lessons learned from the last three decades.
CalPERS Chief Financial Officer Michael Cohen will lead a presentation on the Asset Liability Management (ALM) process and timeline, as well. The ALM Cycle is a transparent review of our total fund and informs decisions to help achieve a sound and sustainable System. The goal of the ALM process is to balance the expected cost of future pension payments with the expected future investment returns.
On Tuesday, July 14, the board is scheduled to approve the final 2021 Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and 2021 Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) proposed health premium rates.
The board will then hear a presentation by CalPERS Chief Health Director Dan Moulds and Harvard Professor Leemore S. Dafny on health care competition. The presentation will look at lack of provider competition and strategies to address it will be discussed.
The board will also hear a presentation on the goals, approaches, and timeline on CalPERS’ Risk Mitigation Strategies.
