CalPERS February 2022 Board Meeting Preview

CalPERS Board Meeting Recap

This month the CalPERS Board will meet Monday, February 14, and Tuesday, February 15, via livestream as all board members and presenters will be participating from their respective remote locations.

The livestream can be viewed on the CalPERS website. The board meetings are open to the public and comments are welcome. Comments can be submitted via telephone by calling (800) 259-4105.

A recording will be posted to the CalPERS YouTube channel approximately 48 hours after the meeting ends.

Full agendas are posted on our website, but here is a brief overview of the items the board will hear this month:

Monday’s Meeting

On Monday, February 14, the Finance & Administration Committee will have their election of the committee chair and vice chair. The chair and vice chair will guide the committee to ensure financial soundness through financial statements and reporting oversight.

The board election committee is preparing for the election of three seats: state, school, and retired members. The committee is planning to adopt the respective Notice of Elections so the election process can begin on March 14, 2022.

The Risk & Audit Committee will also have their election of the committee chair and vice chair. They oversee system soundness, enterprise risk management, information security, ethics, compliance, and independent reassurance activities.

Tuesday’s Meeting

On Tuesday, February 15, the Board of Administration will hear reports from all six board committees. In addition, the board will read the proposed CalPERS 2022-27 Strategic Plan to review and provide comments. The development of the next strategic plan will guide the organization’s strategic priorities for the next five years in the attainment of our Mission and Vision.

Our investment team will provide a report to the Board’s Investment Committee about our investment performance. The report shows that our performance is exceeding our benchmarks. This is testament to the investment strategies that our team has been putting in place to strengthen the sustainability of the fund and improve our funded status.

The committee will also get an update on Proxy Voting and Corporate Engagements. CalPERS is a shareowner in thousands of public companies. We engage with these corporations to ensure their long-term success, which thereby results in stronger returns for our portfolio.

Next Board Meeting

The board will meet again March 14-16, and the meeting will be livestreamed. View the full schedule on our Board Meetings Calendar page.
