CalPERS April 2019 Board Meeting Preview

This month the CalPERS Board will meet Monday, April 15, through Wednesday, April 17, at the CalPERS headquarters (400 Q Street, Sacramento, California). Full agendas are posted on our website.

Board meetings are open to the public. You can also stream the meetings live from the CalPERS website. If you can’t make it in person or miss the webcast, you can catch it on the CalPERS YouTube channel approximately 72 hours after the meeting ends.

Here is a brief overview of the items the CalPERS Board will hear this month:

Investments

On Monday, April 15, the Investment Committee will discuss Assembly Bill 1320 (Nazarian) that would require CalPERS and CalSTRS to cease making any new or additional investments in Turkey that are issued, owned, controlled, or managed by the government of Turkey. At this meeting, the board will vote on if they will oppose the bill.

Additionally, CalPERS Chief Investment Officer Ben Meng will present a review of CalPERS’ private equity co-investment model.

Pension & Health Benefits

On Tuesday, April 16, the Pension & Health Benefits Committee will discuss an update to CalPERS’ Long-Term Care benefits program, as well as an update on the work that CalPERS team members and OptumRX are doing to manage the opioid epidemic.

Finance & Administration Committee

Also on Tuesday, April 16, the Finance & Administration Committee will meet. They will discuss the state and school valuations and employer/employee contribution rates.

CEO Report and Legislative Affairs Update

On Wednesday, April 17, CalPERS CEO Marcie Frost provides her report to the board. Additionally, Legislative Affairs Chief Danny Brown will report on state and federal legislative issues.

Just a note, the Performance, Compensation & Talent Management Committee does not meet this month.

The May board meeting takes place Monday, May 13, through Wednesday, May 15, at CalPERS headquarters.
