Benefits are paid at the beginning of the month for the previous month’s benefits. For tax reasons, your December retirement check is always dated the first day of the new year. The State Controller’s Office issues checks and determines mailing dates. If you have direct deposit, contact your financial institution to see when funds are placed in your account.

Go Online and Access Your Statements
The State Controller’s Office is not mailing paper statements at this time to CalPERS retirees who are enrolled in direct deposit. You can access your pension benefit statements by logging in to your myCalPERS account. If you don’t have an account, follow the easy registration process listed on the myCalPERS webpage.
You can also update your payment preferences in your myCalPERS account by selecting Retirement, then select Payment Options and follow the prompts. If you have questions regarding when funds are placed into your account, contact your financial institution.
